SASBO STRIKE GOING AHEAD: COSATU

Cosatu says it fully supports plans by workers in the banking sector to down tools in September.
Sasbo and its over 70,000 members want to shut down the sector in protest over planned retrenchments.

The union federation warns the strike is just the warm-up.

“All Cosatu-affiliated unions will mobilise to ensure that the Sasbo banking sector strike on 27 September is successful,” said deputy General-Secretary Solly Phetoe.

“This strike will be part of a build-up to the 7 October full-blown national strike.”

Union officials say all avenues to avoid mass job losses across the sector must first be explored.
